8 Things Meme

I haven't done one of these in a long time and when I saw this one over at DesLily's place, I decided what the heck. So here goes:

8 Things Meme

8 Things That I'm Looking Forward too:

1. My niece's graduation from college on Saturday

2. The end of the school year

3. Warmer weather (Please!)

4. Walking the beach with my dog

5. A bonfire on the beach

6. Long, lazy summer evenings

7. Detroit Tigers baseball (as long as it's not like last night's game...)

8. Relaxing

8 Things that I did Yesterday:

1. Tried to sleep

2. Tried to comfort my overly anxious dog so she would let me sleep

3. Took care of some bills

4. Listened to a horrible baseball game on the radio because my cable was out (but I didn't really want to see it anyway)

5. Took the dog for a run

6. Bought KFC

7. Talked to my sister and a friend on the phone

8. Went to work

8 Things That I wish I could Do:

1. ride a horse as well as my niece does

2. paint beautiful pictures

3. fly (with or without a plane)

4. grow the courage to submit my writing somewhere

5. pay all of my bills when they're due and not have to juggle so much

6. stop time where my dog is concerned and keep her young and healthy forever

7. spend my days doing what I want to do and not what I have to do

8. talk to my mom and dad again, if even for a couple of minutes

8 Television Programs That I Watch:

1. Ghost Hunters (and GHI)

2. Dollhouse

3. House

4. Bones

5. Army Wives

6. Castle

7. Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives

8. Detroit Tigers Baseball

I'm not sure how long this one's been around but if you haven't done it, why don't you give it a go? I'd be interested in the answers!

boy, I am with you about stopping time for my pet!! I had to put my 16 yr old cat down when I lived in california and I didn't do it very well.. spent 2 hrs in the vets holding my cat and crying before walking out ..and NOoooo i could not hold her while they did it! I think they should all live as long as we do! (longer)..

I've had to do it too much recently. Within about a year's time, I had to put my male shepherd down because of cancer and then my 17-year-old cat. That was so incredibly heart-wrenching. And the hole he left behind was unbelievably huge, considering he was just a scrawny little cat.

Riley is such a gem, both personality-wise and behavior-wise. She's been relatively trouble free and I want to keep her for a long, long time. Odds are against it, however, due to her hip problems.

Anyway, I'm content on enjoying every minute we have.

oh cj.. i'm so sorry.. I had a female shepard once and she had the hip problems too.. now i have this cat who, i am sure, thinks i am his "mom" and I can't leave him and to be honest, can't afford to take him with me, both financially and emotionally..but he WILL come with me.. I just hope he remains healthy for some time, though he is 9 yrs old already

They really do become our children, don't they? I'm a lot like you - when I moved back home after 7 years away, my dog had a doctor long before I did. I have no intention of being without a dog though I may eventually need to downsize.

Your answers to these posts were so thoughtful. I was really struck by the comment about being able to speak to your parents again. I visited my grandparents this past weekend and it was so difficult to say goodbye to them knowing that it could possibly be the last time (hopefully not!!!).

I watch a handful of shows, but we don't have any in common! Heroes, Law and Order (SVU) and the Office here.

I miss my parents a great deal so take some advice - enjoy every moment you can spend with them (grandparents included) but don't punish yourself for the time you can't. That's life. As long as the people who are important to you know that, it's all good.

I would've included SVU at one point but this season has sort of lost its attraction. No idea why. I watched Heroes first season but, given my rotating shifts, shows like that are hard to keep track of.

Interesting that I still had this comment sitting in my email inbox. My grandfather had a stroke on Wednesday and will most likely not make it more than a few days (he had a pretty debilitating stroke 12 years ago and is now 87). I guess there can't be enough said about letting people know how important they are and not taking for granted a single moment.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, CJ.

Strokes are difficult, but it sounds like you know that. My mom had a major stroke in 1986 and managed to be a source of courage and strength for the next 16 years as she dealt with it. When she finally went home, she was truly ready and we were ready for her to be at peace. I hope you and your family can find that peace as you deal with what's to come.

Yes, CJ. It is incredibly heartbreaking for me, especially as I spoke with my mom on the phone yesterday and felt the pain that she is going through. But, it has been a long 12 years and the truth is that grandpa just doesn't have the strength that he once had. I do think that this will be a peaceful event when it comes, as sad as it might make us all.
