Year end sifting thoughts

It's a little early for a year-end wrap up but I really don't think I'll get much more reading done. Got a couple of books I'm looking forward to, sort of, including Jim Butcher's book of short stories set in the Harry Dresden world. Why can't I warm up to short stories? Even with characters I love and a world I enjoy, I'm 'eh' at best...

It hasn't been a good year, reading-wise. Half of what I read last year and I've been pathetic when it comes to reviews. Hopefully next year will be better on both fronts.

Working toward the end of this year's NaNo story. I've been stuck as of late and every word that has been written has then been rewritten five or six times. That makes it tough but I'm still plugging away at it. I've no intention of abandoning it because I really like the characters. It could be a case of remorse, in a way. The ending is fast approaching and I don't want it to end. Not really.

We had no snow here until Wednesday of last week and then one of our famous 'lake effect snow' fronts moved through. By the time it was gone on Friday morning, we had 14 inches on the ground. Now we're down into the teens, temp-wise, which means the snow has hardened. That's actually a good thing. There's nothing to be blown around. Right now, it's 19, with a wind chill of 9. Glad I'm not working but I'm sure not looking forward to get out of a warm bed in the too darned early a.m.!

Speaking of that... I'm on the dreaded, hated day shift right now. Tomorrow starts week two of the four week rotation... but, I took week three off. So, five days. I need to get through five days more.

I've been kinda lazy today. Watched Duke beat Butler and I've been watching Harry Potter all evening. Not a bad way to spend a chilly night.

The cats are now house cats, officially I think. I had a friend shoveling my drive the other day and he had Riley out with him. When I went to check on them, Maddie decided she wanted out. I watched her hop along in Riley's tracks until, at the end, she sank right up to her tummy. I heard her cry inside the house, with the storm door closed. Poor little girl was more than happy to come inside again... and of course, I got "the look". Sorry, Ms Houdini. The snow is not my fault.

And, one final thought: We have snow showers in the forecast seven of the next ten days...

Hope your weather is warm and sunny wherever you are!

Well, yes, it's actually kind of pleasant around here. We do appreciate it when the temperature cools off, so we're enjoying it.

I've read a good deal less, this year, too. And, I've gone through numerous, "Ugh, I don't want to write reviews," phases. I've enjoyed my reading much more than last year, though, since I really worked hard at allowing myself to stop reading any book that didn't grab me. Hope 2011 is a better reading and blogging year for you.

Snow. We still have falling leaves (more colors than I've ever seen in Dallas...loving it). I actually wouldn't mind a bit of snow--seems pointless to be in the 30s for no good reason. ;)

Not sure if I'll be back around or if you'll have another post this week, so if I don't talk to you, Merry Christmas my dear friend.

Lots of hugs your way.

Bookfool and DesLily - Thanks for the comments. Don't know how I missed them but I guess I did. More likely I meant to get back to comment and forgot. That's the way my mind's been lately.

Trish -

Well, I did another post about the upcoming lunar eclipse...

But, thanks, doll, I hope you have an extra special, great Christmas!
