This wasn't what I had in mind...

I wanted to jump back in with both feet but haven't managed to do it.

Part of the reason is health-related.  I started a new medication the other day for my gout and it is playing havoc with my system.  Nausea and I have gotten to be far too well acquainted...

I have a question, if anyone cares to give me their two cents.

I don't want to do anything a professional 'review' of my books.  I think I'd rather simply discuss them.  Maybe hit the high points, or the low points, or talk about the characters.  You know, kind alike if you were sitting around chatting with some friends.

What do you think?

After we retired from the fire department and moved 800 miles away, I decided to write a book about the backwoods life in my past and the way some people have to live far from justice. The 98,000 word manuscript is still without an agent. I can't write a query that grabs any agent's assistant's attention.

I started putting bits and pieces of it on its own blog, and that allowed passers-by to leave comments.

Unpublished. Never will be. But that is one way to get comments without dedicating your entire blog to it.

I think a more conversational approach to a review is a great idea. I say go for it!

I hope you are feeling better soon, C.J. Hopefully the medication's side effects will level out soon--or you will get a new prescription.

Beau's Mom -

Sorry for the confusion - by 'my books' I meant the ones I've read, not the ones I write. lol I think your book sounds very interesting. Have you thought about self publishing?

Thanks, LF. I think things are starting to level off already, which is a good thing. I hate feeling nauseous just about more than anything!

I think you should talk about books however you want to talk about books and whichever way keeps your blogging self happiest. When you like what you're doing on your blog, then it shows. =)

Hope your medication stops treating you badly soon!

I like more conversational. I'd like to figure out how to do that but I'm lucky just to get a post written about books these days.

Feel better...hope the pain and nausea goes soon.

That's how I review! You should definitely just be yourself,. and operate your blog however you feel works for you. A conversational style is perfect, I think.

I love a conversational post about books. I'm trying to go that way, myself. I decided my reviews were too formal and have dropped all the information I used to write at the top of my reviews about author, title, publisher, page count, blah, blah. Now, I just write what I feel like writing. Go for it.

Hope the side effects of your new med wear off quickly. I'm supposed to be starting a new med but I keep putting it off because I'm sure it'll make me sleepy and that's the last thing I want to deal with.

Thanks for the comments and support, you guys.

As you can see... I haven't gotten to it yet.

Anyway...

Nancy, take the medication. The drowsiness shouldn't last all that long and it's usually out-weighed by the good the medication does!!

I love to talk about books (history, military, suvival/adventure, occasional thriller, historical fiction) Current events and politics not...:) Ok my taskes are too narrow. That dog and the thunderstorm thing was way too familiar. My first hunting dog freaked out so often I lost count. He went thru a neighbors screen door twice freaking out their cleaning lady. Oh my....
